Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 5, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how ShopRate ("ShopRate," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, discloses, and protects information about you when you visit our websites, use our online insurance comparison tools, submit a quote request, or otherwise interact with us (collectively, the "Services"). It also describes the choices and rights you have regarding your information. By using the Services, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Services.

In this Privacy Policy, "personal information" means information that identifies, relates to, describes, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular individual or household.

Please read this Privacy Policy together with our Cookie Policy and our Terms of Service.

1. Who We Are

ShopRate operates an online insurance comparison and lead-generation platform that connects consumers with licensed insurance companies, agents, brokers, and marketing partners. We are not an insurance company, agency, or broker, and we do not sell, underwrite, or issue insurance policies. We do not make coverage, eligibility, premium, or claims decisions.

Our Services are free to consumers. We are compensated by insurance companies and marketing partners when a consumer submits a quote request, is connected with a partner, or purchases a policy through or as a result of our platform. This compensation may influence which partners receive your information and the order in which they are presented. You are never obligated to purchase anything.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of information:

  • Identifiers & Contact Information: Name, email address, telephone number(s), postal/mailing address, ZIP code, and similar identifiers you provide.
  • Demographic Information: Date of birth, age, gender, marital status, homeowner or renter status, and (where you choose to provide it) information such as education or occupation that may affect insurance rates.
  • Insurance & Risk Information: Vehicle details (year, make, model, VIN, usage), property details, driving history, accident and claims history, current and prior insurance status, coverage and policy preferences, and lifestyle information relevant to a quote.
  • Device & Usage Data: IP address, approximate geolocation derived from IP, browser type and language, device type, operating system, screen resolution, pages and content viewed, time on page, click and tap events, scroll depth, form interactions, and referring/exit URLs.
  • Marketing & Attribution Data: UTM parameters, advertising click identifiers (e.g., GCLID, FBCLID), campaign and publisher identifiers, and the marketing source that referred you to us.
  • Communications & Recordings: The content of your communications with us and, where permitted by law, recordings or transcripts of telephone calls and copies of emails, chats, and other correspondence related to providing the Services.
  • Consent & Transaction Records: Records of the consents you provide (including TCPA consent), the disclosure language shown to you, timestamps, the URL of the page where consent was captured, and a record of your quote request submissions.
  • Cookies & Tracking Technologies: Information collected through cookies, web beacons, pixels, session-replay tools, and similar technologies, as described in our Cookie Policy.

We will never ask for or collect your Social Security number, and we do not request or collect government-issued ID numbers, financial account or payment card numbers, or health records through our quote forms. Please do not submit this type of information to us, and treat any request claiming to be from ShopRate that asks for your Social Security number as fraudulent. Certain information we collect to provide insurance quotes (such as date of birth or driving history) may be treated as "sensitive" under some state privacy laws; we use it only for the purposes described in this Policy.

3. How We Collect Information

We collect information from the following sources:

  • Directly from you, when you complete a quote form, contact us, or otherwise interact with the Services.
  • Automatically, through cookies and similar technologies as you use the Services.
  • From marketing and referral partners, including advertising networks and lead-marketplace partners (such as MediaAlpha) that direct you to our Services or that we work with to deliver quotes.
  • From service providers and data sources, such as analytics providers and vendors that help validate, enhance, or verify the information you submit.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Connect you with insurance companies, agents, brokers, and marketing partners who can provide quotes or offers;
  • Transmit your quote request and related information to one or more partners so they may contact you about insurance products and services;
  • Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services and develop new features;
  • Communicate with you, respond to your inquiries, and send service-related or marketing communications consistent with your consent;
  • Analyze traffic, measure and optimize our advertising, and understand how the Services are used;
  • Verify information, maintain consent and compliance records, and prevent, detect, and investigate fraud, abuse, and security incidents;
  • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal process, and our legal obligations; and
  • Establish, exercise, or defend legal claims, and enforce our Terms of Service.

5. How We Share Your Information

When you submit a quote request, you authorize us to share the personal and insurance-related information you provide with third parties so they may contact you about insurance and related products and services. We may share information with the following categories of recipients:

  • Insurance companies, agents, and brokers, who may contact you with quotes, offers, or follow-up communications.
  • Marketing partners and lead marketplaces, including partners such as MediaAlpha, that facilitate the distribution of quote requests to insurance providers. A current list of the partners we may share your information with is available on our Partners page.
  • Service providers and processors, who perform services on our behalf — such as hosting, data storage, analytics, communications delivery, fraud prevention, and verification — and who are contractually limited to using your information for those services.
  • Advertising and analytics partners, to help us measure, deliver, and optimize advertising and understand usage of the Services.
  • Corporate transactions, in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, where information may be transferred as part of the transaction.
  • Legal and safety purposes, to comply with applicable law or legal process, respond to lawful requests from public authorities, enforce our agreements, or protect the rights, property, or safety of ShopRate, our users, or others.

Once your information is shared with an insurance provider or marketing partner, that party's use of your information is governed by its own privacy policy, and we are not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any partner that contacts you. The sharing described above may be considered a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under certain state privacy laws; see Your Privacy Choices and State Privacy Rights below.

6. Consent to Be Contacted (TCPA)

When you submit a quote request and agree to the consent disclosure presented on our forms, you provide your prior express written consent to be contacted by ShopRate and one or more of our marketing partners and insurance providers at the telephone number(s) and email address you provide — including through automated telephone dialing systems, prerecorded or artificial voice messages, text/SMS messages, and email — for marketing purposes, even if your number is on a federal or state Do Not Call list.

Your consent is not a condition of purchasingany property, goods, or services. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency may vary. You may revoke your consent or opt out at any time: reply "STOP" to any text message, follow the unsubscribe instructions in an email, ask a caller to place you on their do-not-call list, or contact us at info@shoprate.net. Revoking consent will not affect communications you previously authorized before the request was processed, and a partner you are already connected with may need to be contacted directly to stop their communications.

7. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We and our partners use cookies, web beacons, pixels, session-replay tools, and similar technologies to operate the Services, remember your preferences, analyze usage, attribute marketing, and deliver and measure advertising. Some of these technologies may enable cross-site or cross-device tracking. For details about the technologies we use and how to manage them, please see our Cookie Policy. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, and you may use the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where supported.

Session recording. Some of these tools record how you interact with our pages — including mouse movements, clicks, scrolling, the information you enter into forms, the pages you view, and the time and duration of your visit — so we can diagnose issues and improve the Services. By using the Services, you acknowledge and consent to this recording. You can manage or limit it through the cookie controls and browser settings described in our Cookie Policy.

8. Third-Party Websites & Services

The Services may contain links to, or be accessed from, third-party websites, advertisements, and services that we do not operate or control, including the websites of insurance providers and marketing partners. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. We are not responsible for the content, security, or privacy practices of any third party, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing them with information.

9. Your Privacy Choices

You have a number of choices about how your information is used and shared:

  • Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information by submitting a request through our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page, or by emailing info@shoprate.net.
  • Opt out of marketing communicationsby replying "STOP" to texts, using the unsubscribe link in emails, or asking a caller to add you to their do-not-call list. Note that partners who already received your information must be contacted directly.
  • Manage cookies and tracking through our cookie banner, your browser settings, and supported opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control.

Interest-Based Advertising

We work with advertising partners such as Google and Meta that use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your activity across websites, apps, and devices so they can show you advertising tailored to your interests (including retargeting you with our ads on other platforms) and measure how our campaigns perform. You can exercise choices about interest-based advertising through the industry tools below. Each opt-out is specific to the browser or device on which you set it, so you will need to repeat it on each browser and device, and you may need to opt out again if you clear your cookies:

10. Your State Privacy Rights

Depending on your state of residence, you may have some or all of the following rights with respect to your personal information, subject to legal exceptions:

  • Right to know/access the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, the purposes, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it;
  • Right to delete personal information we have collected from you;
  • Right to correct inaccurate personal information;
  • Right to data portability — to obtain a copy of your personal information in a portable format;
  • Right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising;
  • Right to limit the use of certain sensitive personal information; and
  • Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

California (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the rights described above under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act. In the preceding 12 months, we have collected the categories of personal information described in Section 2, and we have "sold" and/or "shared" (as those terms are defined under California law) identifiers, demographic information, insurance-related information, internet/usage activity, and inferences with insurance providers and marketing partners for the purpose of connecting you with quotes and for advertising. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age. California residents also have the right, under California Civil Code § 1798.83 ("Shine the Light"), to request information about disclosures of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes.

Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and Other States

Residents of states with comprehensive privacy laws (including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, and others) have the rights described above to the extent provided by their state's law, including the right to appeal a denial of a request where applicable. Where required, we honor opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control.

How to Exercise Your Rights

You (or an authorized agent acting on your behalf) may submit a request by emailing info@shoprate.net or using our Do Not Sell or Share page. To protect your privacy, we will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before responding, which may require you to provide information that matches what we have on file. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law (generally 45 days, with the possibility of an extension). We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

11. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, to provide the Services, to comply with our legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, and recordkeeping obligations, to maintain consent and compliance records (including TCPA consent records), and to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. Because we operate as a lead-generation service, we generally retain lead and consent records for a minimum of five (5) years. When information is no longer needed, we will delete, de-identify, or aggregate it.

12. Data Security

We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your personal information, including SSL/TLS encryption in transit, access controls, and secure data storage. No method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping any credentials you use with the Services confidential. If we become aware of a security incident affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

13. Children's Privacy

The Services are intended for adults age 18 and older and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 where applicable law requires). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at info@shoprate.net and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

14. Users Outside the United States

The Services are intended for residents of the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with applicable local laws.

15. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Material changes will be effective when posted, and your continued use of the Services after the changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.
